Look at what arrived in the mail!!! I actually meant to post this a few days ago, but they arrived on my son’s 4th Birthday, so we were just a bit busy that day 😉
We are getting a total of 3 sets of MagicBands, one for each Disneyworld Hotel that we are staying at during our trip. I am planning to decorate at least one set, because we are getting so many, so why not? We’ll see if I get the time to do it… If I do, I’ll post the pictures here.
You may be asking, “What are Magicbands?”
Magicbands are sent to those staying in Walt Disney World hotels before their stay. You can customize your bands before your stay, to add you name and which color you desire for your magicband. They are then mailed to your home. If you don’t customize them, then you will be given the basic gray magicband when you check into your hotel.  Ours were mailed to us exactly one month before our check-in date. They sent several emails warning me to customize the bands, telling me they were shipping soon. I got the shipment notice email and then they showed up the next day. I am thinking the email didn’t get sent right as they mailed them, since they got here so quickly after the shipment email.
The Disneyworld website states that you can purchase a magicband for $12.95 plus tax at the parks, I am guessing for those not staying at a Disney hotel, but still want a magicband.
Since we have 6 members of our family, we got each color available 🙂 (except the gray) My sister-in-law is joining us on our second stay, so we got her magicband with our second set of bands, that we received a day after the first set. We are still waiting on the third set, but my guess is they will be here by the weekend.  Her magicband is the same color as my daughter’s, but they put their names on the inside of the magicbands, so no mixing up the bands!
You can use your Magicbands for just about everything at Disneyworld, and they replace your Key to the World Cards.
- Use the Magicbands as your hotel room key
- Use your Magicbands to make purchases – when you customize your bands, they will ask you to set a pin number, which you will need to make purchases. I like this for security purposes. You will only be able to make charges if you are staying at a Disneyworld hotel.
- Your Theme Park tickets are linked to your Magicband, so you only need your band to get into the park!
- You can pick your fastpass+ options using My Disney Experience. You can pick and load 3 fastpass+ options, 60 days in advance of your trip. I have picked our fast pass+ options for our trip already and they are linked to the Magicband. Then you simply tap your magicband at the fastpass+ entrance and get into the ride without the line. No more running to get your fastpass and keeping track of the paper passes, and never knowing what time you will get for your fastpass for. Simply load your fastpass+ options from your computer or smartphone app, and set what times you want to use that fastpass!
- They are waterproof – so you can wear them to the waterparks or to the swimming pool!
- You can re-use it on future trips to Disneyworld. You simply manage your different magicbands in your My Disney Experience
I am excited to try the Magicbands out! I don’t like the idea of being limited to 3 fastpass+, but you can apparently add more once you have used your first 3 up! I like not having to send someone to get our fastpasses, then not knowing exactly what return time you’ll get. I am a planner, so I love the idea of pre-planning my fastpasses and not having to worry about getting them when I get to the park! Plus it is my room key, and I don’t have to take my money or credit cards to the park to pay for anything, or even take theme park admissions. Just need my Magicband and I am set!
Hopefully they will actually work as seamlessly as they lead you to believe! I guess I’ll let you know when I get home 🙂
The Bands can be made smaller for little people. We did this for my youngest two. Here is what they look like smaller:
Here they are side by side – child vs adult size:
Here is the side of the adult. You can see that you simply pull the colored part of the band, out of the black outer edge. It is fairly simply to do, and just requires to firmly pulling them apart:
Here you can see the name on the inside of the Magicband. This way you know whose it whose, if you have the same color. There is also an identifying number, so if you have multiple magicbands, then you will be able to tell the difference. (I have blacked out that info in the picture):
