I am realizing that having 5 kids makes it much harder to get posts written – especially with a now mobile infant around!
I had to write about one of our memorable events on our last trip! Have you ever shut down a ride???? Well, after dozens and dozens of trips to Disney, we can now say we have! Achievement Unlocked!
My 3-year-old rode all of the 40″ Roller Coasters (and all the 40″ rides). He LOVED them, and I mean LOVED them. He wanted to ride them all day long. He even rode Tower of Terror. Came off it happily, not bothered by it at all, and thought it was great.
Well, the end of Day 3 at Disneyland (day 4 at the resort, also had been to Universal Studios and Legoland at this point), we were heading to ride Dumbo, but he saw the carousel, and REALLY wanted to ride it. We had already ridden it a few times this trip, but he really wanted to ride it again. Ok, sure, there was no line, so why not?
We get him on his horse and the baby on his. The other kids and the aunts are somewhere else on the carousel. Take pictures and get ready for the ride. I start to video the baby, because baby on carousel = adorable fun! I turn to get the 3-year-old on video and well…. see above video….
I promise you he was perfectly fine before we got on the carousel and all day/all vacation.
I had NOTHING on me. Everything was on the stroller. I tried to calm him. Tried to get him to wait. I knew it was fruitless. I grabbed his shirt and pulled it up over his mouth, so it didn’t shoot out everywhere. Tried to contain it a bit.
So the ride ends. We get the aunts to tell the ride operator. I don’t think the ride operators for the carousel really get this often, because I don’t think he knew what to do at first. He did shut down the ride and sent everyone in the queue away. Sorry people!!! At least there is never a long line, so they weren’t waiting long.
We got off the ride. Aunt went to buy him a new shirt and I used a ton of baby wipes to clean him up. Then off to the closest bathroom to wipe him down. He got all cleaned up and new shirt. He is wearing that shirt as we speak. He loves it and pretty much wears it constantly now…
It was the end of the day at least. We were just hitting up the last rides of the day anyway. We were tired after all that and just headed back to our Condo. Of course, the 6-year-old got a bloody nose on the walk back. Doh! Yeah, good time to head back – we were done for the day!
So now we can say we’ve shut down a ride. The carousel of all rides! Kind of amusing… He totally rode Tower of Terror the next day with no problems. He was perfectly fine later that night and the next day. Sigh.. Guess it was just a fluke. Good Times… 🙂
